We can help Get You Accredited

All employers who are wishing to employ an overseas worker must now be accredited with immigration New Zealand. This came into force on the 4th of July, 2022.

The Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) has also been introduced to consolidate several existing visa types, streamline the work visa application process, and prevent the exploitation of migrant workers.

Once accredited, businesses will have a straightforward path to recruitment and has a one-year expiry from the date of accreditation. One of the main benefits of accreditation will be faster processing of work visas.

Sky Civil Recruitment can manage the accreditation process for employers and help avoid disruption and delays to the hiring process.

Requirements for accreditation

A business must be genuine, become an accredited employer,
and meet the following minimum requirements of New Zealand

Financially Viable

Not have a loss over the last 2 years, have a positive cash flow each month for the last 6 months and have enough capital or external investment for their business to remain viable, or have a credible 2-year plan to ensure the business remains viable

Workplace Practices

Have good workplace practices, including a history of compliance with New Zealand employment and immigration law

Cover Costs

Pay all recruitment costs and not pass the costs on to the migrant worker (airfare is shouldered by the worker unless employer wants to)

Human Resource Policies

Have human resource policies and processes in place, and which meet a high standard

Clear Commitments

Show a clear commitment to employing and training new workers and show that they make up a significant part of their workforce

Settlement Support

Commit to settlement support by giving migrant workers information about working and living in New Zealand

There is a new 3-stage process for hiring a migrant on the Accredited Employer Worker Visa

The Employer Check

An employer must become accredited with INZ before it can hire from overseas. This is for worker protection, ensures the employer meets current employment standards and has good workplace practices involving health and safety among others.

The Job Check

The employer must advertise the role in New Zealand first. If the role cannot be filled from the local labour market, it can be opened to qualified migrants who must meet the criteria.

Visa application

If the first two steps are completed successfully, the final step is the filing of the work visa application.
